HOUSTON (ICIS) --US maleic anhydride (MA) exports were down about 15% in April from the same month a year earlier, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Thursday.
The US shipped 4,211 tonnes of MA in April, compared with 4,958 tonnes in April 2012.
Mexico was the top destination for US MA in April, at 1,358 tonnes. It was followed by the UK (671 tonnes), Canada (528 tonnes) and Brazil (486 tonnes).
Meanwhile, imports of MA into the US were 1,046 tonnes, up 47% from the same month in 2012. The top importer to the US in April was Korea at 293 tonnes, followed by Brazil (220 tonnes), China (139 tonnes) and Malaysia (123 tonnes).
Major US MA producers include Huntsman, LANXESS, Ashland and Flint Hills Resources.
