LONDON (ICIS)--Average European daily chlorine production in May 2013 was up 10.6% month on month at 25,926 tonnes, following stock replenishment after the completion of  recent plant turnarounds, according to Eurostats data released on Thursday.

The average daily May 2013 chlorine production figure, however, was down 3.1% compared to the same period in 2012, when production stood at 26,744 tonnes/day. The data takes into account EU member states, as well as Norway and Switzerland.

Caustic soda stocks in May 2013 stood at 266,812 tonnes, which represents an increase of 26,921 tonnes above the level in April 2013 level, amid low export activity. Despite the increase, the figure for caustic soda stocks in May 2013 remains 3.3% below the same period one year ago, when stocks amounted to 275, 935 tonnes.

Chlorine capacity utilisation is at 74.8% in May 2013, down from 77.2% year-on-year, but it is up from 67.8% in April 2013.
