Japan May cast PP film output rises 2.3% on year; exports up 6%

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s production of cast polypropylene (PP) film in May increased by 2.3% year on year to 12,144 tonnes, official data from Japan Polypropylene Film Industry Association showed on Tuesday.

Domestic shipments fell by 0.2% year on year to 11,881 tonnes, while exports rose by 6% to 371 tonnes, according to the association.

Meanwhile, the country’s production of oriented PP film declined by 3.7% year on year to 19,514 tonnes in May, with domestic shipments down by 5.1% to 17,429 tonnes, the data showed.

Exports of oriented PP film stood at 364 tonnes, down by 3.7% from the previous year, the data showed.

Cast PP film and oriented PP film are mainly used for food packaging.
