MELBOURNE (ICIS)--Malaysia’s PETRONAS Chemicals Group (PCG) has declared force majeure on its butyl glycol (BG) supplies as part of a force majeure declared on its ethylene oxide (EO) and derivatives supplies on 28 June, a company source said on Wednesday.
The producer shut its 60,000 tonne/year BG plant along with its other EO derivative units on 21 June, because of equipment failure at its upstream 140,000 tonne/year EO plant at the same Kerteh site in Terengganu.
PCG’s BG export availability for July has been “significantly reduced”, the company source said.
“Our priority is to our local customers, and we are not offering cargoes [to non-southeast Asian markets] until we have a clearer picture of [when the plants can be restarted],” the source said.
