Japan’s Asahi Kasei to shut Mizushima SM No 3 unit in September

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Asahi Kasei Co plans to shut its 390,000 tonne/year No 3 styrene monomer (SM) plant in mid-September for maintenance, a company source said on Friday.

The facility located in Mizushima is expected to shut for around 40 days, the source said.

Asahi Kasei also operates a 320,000 tonne/year No 2 SM unit at the site, while its 150,000 tonne/year No 1 SM unit was mothballed in 2007.

Other Japanese SM producers include Idemitsu Kosan, Denka and Nippon Steel Chemicals.
