HOUSTON (ICIS)--US acetic acid FOB (free on board) export prices have fallen $25-$50/tonne in the past week following Celanese’s repair of a Texas plant after complications from a turnaround, sources said on Tuesday.
Prices fell to $610-685/tonne (€470-527/tonne), from $660-710 previously.
Celanese would not comment on operations at its 1.2m tonnes/year plant in Clear Lake, Texas.
Spot prices rose in June because of the Texas plant issue and also from producer nominations for June and July.
US acetic acid producers include Celanese, BP, Eastman Chemical and LyondellBasell.
