LONDON (ICIS)--Clariant on Thursday said it has signed a long-term ethylene supply contract with Austrian oil, gas and petrochemicals group OMV to supply the Swiss-headquartered specialty chemicals producer’s ethylene oxide (EO) site in Gendorf, Germany.
Financial details were not disclosed.
This agreement will enable Clariant to source most of its ethylene requirement in southern Bavaria from 2015 for EO production, the company added.
According to ICIS, Clariant has the capacity to produce 240,000 tonnes/year of EO at its plant in Gendorf.
The Gendorf plant is the largest production site of Clariant’s Industrial & Consumer Specialties (ICS) business unit.
"EO is used to manufacture well over 500 different products on the site for use in the group’s crop care, home care, and personal care, and in industrial applications such as lubricants or construction chemicals," Clariant said.
“It [the long-term supply contract] underlines the close co-operation which exists within the chemical industry in southern Bavaria," said Michael Riedel, ICS regional head for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
“It is also a clear indication of Clariant’s commitment to the Gendorf site, from where we supply the European customers of the ICS business unit,” he added.
