SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Chemical & Fibre Corp (FCFC) expects to shut its 700,000 tonne/year No 3 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) unit at Loong-der on 1 August for a three-week turnaround, a company source said on Wednesday.
The shutdown has been delayed from early July because of healthy demand for PTA, the source said, adding that FCFC also wanted to make up for the production loss caused by a five-day production hiccup at its 550,000 tonne/year No 1 PTA unit in mid-July.
FCFC has ample PTA inventory to continue supplying to domestic customers during the turnaround of the No 3 PTA unit, the source said.
The company has cut its PTA export volumes to China to below 10,000 tonnes from 40,000 tonnes since June because of higher netbacks in selling to the domestic market, the source said.
