LONDON (ICIS)--Italian polyethylene (PE) producer Versalis will close its linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) production at Priolo, Italy, in September, as planned, sources said on Friday.
The plant has a capacity of 150,000 tonnes/year.
There was also speculation over the fate of Eni’s Gela low density polyethylene (LDPE) unit, marketed by Versalis, which is expected to close although no date for its closure has been given.
Strike action is taking place by truck drivers at the Gela site, who fear job losses because of the closure of the PE plant.
LDPE and LLDPE availability has tightened over the past weeks on reduced output, fewer imports and production issues, and sellers are looking for higher prices in August.
