LONDON (ICIS)--Evonik’s acrylics joint venture in South Africa has begun production this month at an extrusion plant, according to a news release made available on Friday.
Evonik Acrylics Africa (EAA), a joint venture between Evonik and South Africa’s Ampaglas Plastics, will be producing PLEXIGLAS sheet at a facility in Johannesburg suburb of Elandsfontein.
The new extrusion facility will produce "some several thousand metric tonnes of semi-finished material" annually, Evonik said without disclosing specific capacity data.
"Producing locally means we are more flexible and can respond more quickly to customer requests and offer them more competitive products and better service," said Holger Morhart, business director of EAA.
The main markets for PLEXIGLAS sheet in South Africa include construction and architecture, lighting technologies, and furniture, shopfitting, and exhibition stand construction, Evonik said.
Financial details were not disclosed.
