MELBOURNE (ICIS)--China’s Dongying Yimeide Chemicals has begun construction of a new 30,000 tonne/year methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) plant at Dongying in Shandong province, market sources in China said on Tuesday.

The plant will consist of two MIBK lines with a capacity of 15,000 tonnes/year each, and the two lines will be started up separately in 2014, the market sources said.

The producer is planning to start test runs at the first 15,000 tonne/year MIBK line in February 2014, and it will begin trial runs at the second line in December 2014, the sources added.

Dongying Yimeide currently operates a 100,000 tonne/year dioctyl phthalate (DOP) unit at the same site.

Other MIBK producers in China include Zhenjiang LCY General Chemical, Ningbo Zhenyang and Jilin Petrochemical.
