SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Guangzhou Petrochemical is expected to delay the start-up of its new 200,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) unit in Guangdong province to 2014 from September 2013, a source from Sinopec’s southern branch said on Tuesday.
The source did not disclose further details on the reason for the expected delay, however.
Market players indicated that the delay could be due to numerous PP unit start-ups and expansions in 2013 among producers such as Luoyang Petrochemical, Ningbo Heyuan, Xuzhou Haitian Petrochemical and Wuhan Petrochemical.
The total capacity of these four producers amounts to 1.14m tonnes/year, according to the market players.
