US July nylon imports fell by 12% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US imports of nylon in July fell by 12% compared with the same month in 2012, according to data released on Friday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

July nylon imports were 6,995 tonnes, compared with 7,946 tonnes a year ago.

July imports fell by 4% month on month. June imports were 7,320 tonnes.

The countries that exported the most PC to the US in July, according to the ITC, were Canada (2,196 tonnes), Germany (1,225 tonnes) and Italy (511 tonnes). 

US exports of nylon rose in July by 19% to 55,771 tonnes from 46,880 tonnes a year ago, the ITC reported.

Exports were basically flat when compared with June, when they were 55,661 tonnes.

US producers exported the most material in July to Mexico (7,460 tonnes), Korea (6,165) and China (5,649), according to the ITC.

Major producers of nylon in the US include Ascend Performance Materials, BASF, Bayer MaterialScience and Dupont.
