China’s Aug vehicle sales rise 10.3% year on year to 1.65m units

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s vehicle sales in August reached 1.65m units, up by 10.3% year on year and 8.7% month on month, according to data from China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

Vehicle production in August expanded by 11.7% year on year and 5.9% month on month to 1.68m units, the CAAM data reads.

In January-August, vehicle sales and production were at 13.95m and 14.01m units respectively, up by 11.8% and 12.4% year on year, respectively, according to the association.

Passenger car sales in August rose by 11% year on year to 1.35m units, while the production of these cars increased by 13% year on year to 1.39m units.

Compared with July, the August sales and production of passenger cars were 9.3% and 6.9% higher, respectively.

The total sales of passenger cars in January-August reached 11.26m units, gaining 13.1% year on year, the data indicated.
