It was a struggle for many of the regional leaders to record organic sales growth in 2012. Those that made major strides were vaulted by mergers and acquisitions (M&A).
In North America, this included Ecolab, which shot up to the #7 slot with a 74% gain in sales to $11.8bn (€9.0bn). In Latin America, Mexichem saw revenues jump 34% to $4.9bn, solidifying its #3 position. Both companies are poised for further gains in 2013 as they continue to make acquisitions.
The European leaders were hit hard by the eurozone economic crisis, and Asia’s leaders, as well as everyone else, felt the effects of a growth slowdown in China.
But for 2013, the macro winds are shifting more favourably. The US recovery is gaining traction, Europe is stabilising, and China manufacturing is improving.
