HOUSTON (ICIS)--US October methanol rose an average of 2.5 cents/gal as Methanex on Thursday posted 165 cents/gal for its monthly contract.
The Canada-based producer’s posting, up from 160 cents/gal for September, was offset by the rollover issued by Southern Chemical Corp (SCC), which posted 159 cents/gal, a repeat of its September number.
The Canada-based producer and SCC historically have set the range for the US monthly contract.
Buyers expected an increase because of rising spot prices throughout September. US methanol spot barge prices continued the push up Thursday, rising to 144-145 cents/gal.
