HOUSTON (ICIS)--One of the three polystyrene (PS) plants operated by Styrolution in the US was affected by a “brief outage” in recent days but is back up as of Wednesday, a market source familiar with the situation said.
The source said there was a brief outage in Springfield, Massachusetts that forced the plant to be offline between five to six days. The source did not provide an exact date for the restart or any additional information.
Another source said the problem may have started on 20 September.
Company spokespersons reached by email did not immediately reply to an e-mail request for confirmation.
According to ICIS plants and reports, the Massachusetts plant has 150,000 tonne/year PS production capacity. The company has two other PS plants in the US, which are located in Decatur, Alabama, with 190,000 tonne/year output and in Joliet, Illinois, with 400,000 tonne/year capacity.
