SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Chemical & Fibre Corp (FCFC) has delayed a two-week turnaround at its 550,000 tonne/year No 1 PTA plant in Mailiao to the first-half of November, a company source said on Wednesday.

The two-week shutdown was initially planned in October, the source said.

“We need to leave a period to stock up on more inventories before another shutdown, so as to fulfil our commitments to clients,” the source said.

FCFC earlier completed a three-week turnaround at its 700,000 tonne/year No 3 PTA unit at Loong-der from 1 August to 20 August, he added.

Separately, FCFC has delayed a three-week shutdown at its 1.2m tonne/year PTA unit at Ningbo in China’s Zhejiang province to March 2014 from its original plan in November because the issues affecting the facility was fixed during a turnaround in late July, the source said.

While PTA margins are poor, Taiwanese PTA producers are able to maintain their cash flows by adopting a feedstock paraxylene (PX)-based PTA pricing mechanism, a major regional market source added.
