LONDON (ICIS)--Phenol imports into the EU from the rest of the world increased in July and August, but while exports from the EU increased in July, they decreased in August, according to Eurostat data released on Monday.

In July 2013, imports of phenol from the rest of the world increased by 105.09%, while in August they increased by 237.89%. The reason for the change was because of reduced operating rates in phenol production and some major buyers bringing volume in from the US, because of high phenol prices in Europe.

In July 2013, exports of phenol increase by 282.11%. In August they decreased by 60.15%, because of poor demand in the rest of the world.
