EU terephthalic acid imports in July, Aug up steeply year on year

LONDON (ICIS)--EU terephthalic acid imports rose sharply in July and August year on year, according to data from statistics agency Eurostat on Monday.

Terephthalic acid imports from the rest of the world rose by 63% in July and by 25% in August compared with the same months in 2012.

EU exports fell by 45% year on year in July, and 26% in August.

The purified terephthalic acid (PTA) market tightened in July and August because of cutbacks in PTA output.
