SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Evonik Industries has opened a new 80,000 tonne/year production facility for organic specialty surfactants in Shanghai, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The facility is located in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP) and its investment volume was in the “upper two-digit million Euro range”, the company said in a statement but did not specify the exact amount.

The production uses a number of different technologies, enabling Evonik to offer a broad portfolio of locally manufactured products, it said.

These products include specialty surfactants from renewable resources that are used in personal care and hygiene products, household cleaning agents, and industrial applications, according to the Germany's specialty chemical maker.
