China's Shandong Kaitai starts up new butyl-A, AA plants

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China's Shangdong Kaitai Petrochemical Co Ltd started up its new 80,000 tonne/year butyl acrylate (butyl-A) plant in Shandong province on 28 October, a company source said on Tuesday.

It also brought its new 80,000 tonne/year crude acrylic acid plant on stream on the same day, the source said without disclosing the current run rates of the two plants.

Industry sources expect the company to start supplying butyl-A and AA to the domestic market by the end of the week.

Butyl-A prices in the Chinese market were assessed at yuan (CNY) 15,400-15,500/tonne ($2,529-2,545/tonne) DEL (delivered) east China on 28 October, unchanged from last week, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.

While butyl-A market prices were assessed at $1,950-2,030/tonne CIF (Cost Insurance and Freight) China on 23 October, according to ICIS.

Shangdong Kaitai Petrochemical has an old acrylic acid plant with a 30,000 tonne/year capacity and a 5,000 tonne/year methyl acrylate (methyl-A) unit, according to the company source.

The company was formerly known as Shandong Qilu Petrochemical Kaitai Industrial Ltd.
