CARTAGENA, Colombia (ICIS)--Brazil’s upcoming international events are not expected to bring much change for polyolefins markets, a Braskem representative said on Tuesday.

The upcoming soccer World Cup and Olympic games in Brazil have been beneficial to the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) markets but not so much to polyethylene and polypropylene markets, the source said.

This year has been a good one for Braskem, despite low GDP growth rates for Brazil. GDP growth in 2013 may end up around 2.5%, slowly recovering from lower numbers in 2012, but below initial forecasts for 2013.

The APLA conference ends on Tuesday.
