US Sept PET exports drop 29%, imports climb 33% year on year – ITC

NEW YORK (ICIS)--September US exports for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fell 29% while imports rose 33% year on year, according to trade data made available on Tuesday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

Exports dropped from 30,188 tonnes in September 2012 to 21,463 tonnes in September 2013.  

Month on month exports fell 15% from 25,302 tonnes in August to 21,463 tonnes in September.

US September PET imports, in comparison, climbed 33% year on year from 27,917 tonnes in September 2012 to 37,240 tonnes in September 2013.

Month on month imports were only slightly higher by 0.1% at 37,240 tonnes in September from 37,216 tonnes in August, according to ITC.  

PET is used in plastic drinking bottles and in textiles.

PET producers in the US include DAK Americas, Indorama Ventures, Mossi & Ghisolfi (M&G) and Nan Ya Plastics.
