HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) in September 2013 were up by 70% from September 2012, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Tuesday.
MDI exports in September 2013 rose to 1,320 tonnes from 778 tonnes in September 2012.
Month on month, exports were down by 0.4% in September from 1,325 tonnes in August 2013, the ITC said.
In the nine months to September 30, exports increased by 1% to 8,720 tonnes, compared with 8,625 tonnes in the first nine months of 2012, according to the ITC.
The increase from 2012 year-to-date to 2013 year-to-date came despite smaller volumes being shipped to Brazil.
Top destinations for US MDI in the first nine months of 2013 were Mexico (3,196tonnes), Brazil (2,183 tonnes) and Taiwan (751 tonnes).
US MDI suppliers are Bayer MaterialScience, Huntsman, BASF and Dow Chemical.
