LONDON (ICIS)--EU propylene imports from the rest of the world almost tripled in September compared with the same month last year, according to Eurostat data released on Monday.

Imports were up by a massive 176.99% year on year but were down by 2.03% from August 2013.

Conversely, exports from the EU in September were cut by nearly 90% compared with the same month in 2012.

The high level of imports and low level of exports highlighted the ongoing production shortfall in the Mediterranean as well as the under-utilisation of European crackers in general.
