LONDON (ICIS)--Acetone imports into the EU from the rest of the world increased significantly year on year in September, according to data released by Eurostat on Monday.

A reduced operating rate in primary product phenol was the main factor behind the higher import levels.

In September 2013, exports of acetone fell by 45% year on year.

Demand for phenol is weak and has resulted in ongoing cuts in its production. For every tonne of phenol produced, 0.62 tonnes of acetone is made.
