SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s output of most petrochemicals in November gained year on year, according to data released by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association (CPCIA) on Monday.

China’s polyvinyl chloride (PVC) output surged by 23.6% year on year to 1.4m tonnes in November, while production in January-November increased by 12.5% year on year to 13.8m tonnes, the CPCIA data showed.

The increased production of PVC is mainly attributed to high operating rates from the chlor-alkali producers in light of the profits from the caustic soda market, one market source from the PVC industry said.

Chlorine, the raw material of PVC, is a by-product of caustic soda from chlor-alkali units.

The country’s ethylene output went up by 15.5% year on year to 1.5m tonnes in November, while polypropylene (PP) production rose by 5.1% to around 1m tonnes and polyethylene (PE) output edged up by 0.3% to 920,000 tonnes, the data showed.

Crude oil output from China was slightly up by 0.4% from the previous year to 17.3m tonnes in November, while gasoline production rose by 3.3% to 8.33m tonnes, according to the data.

Natural gas output for the same period climbed by 6.4% year on year to 10.0 billion cubic metres (bcm).
