US Nov PP exports fell 25% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of polypropylene (PP) for November were down by 25% from the same month in 2012, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Thursday.

US PP exports fell  to 78,277 tonnes in November 2013 from 103,742 tonnes in 2012.

Mexico, Canada and China were the top destinations for US PP, together representing about 84% of exports. Exports to China fell by 61% from the same month in 2012, while exports to Mexico decreased by 11%. Exports to Canada decreased by 12%.

US PP imports rose by 19% in November to 8,942  tonnes, up from 7,499 tonnes in 2012.

Canada, Mexico and Korea were the top importers into the US, together representing 57% of imports. Inports from Canada and Mexico increased, while imports from Korea fell.

Major North American PP producers include LyondellBasell, ExxonMobil, INEOS, Total, Formosa, Braskem Americas, Pinnacle Polymers, Phillips 66 and Flint Hills Resources.
