US EPS exports for 2013 fall by 4.1% from 2012

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of expandable polystyrene (EPS) for 2013 were down by 4.1% from 2012, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.

US EPS exports fell to 76,702 tonnes in 2013 from 80,020 tonnes in 2012.

Mexico, Canada and Hong Kong were the top destinations for US exports, with Mexico accounting for 51% of all US exports.

US EPS imports fell by 2.4% in 2013 to 180,940 tonnes from 185,338 tonnes in 2012.

The Bahamas, Canada and Mexico were the top importers into the US in 2013, together accounting for 80% of all imports. Imports from the Bahamas and Mexico rose, while imports from Canada fell in 2013 from 2012.

Major North American EPS producers are BASF, Nova Chemicals, Flint Hills Resources, Styrochem, Nexkemia, Polioles and Polidesa.
