LONDON (ICIS)--Imports of benzene into the EU increased by 15% in 2013 compared to the previous year, data from European statistics agency Eurostat showed on Wednesday.

Exports, meanwhile, were down by almost 40,000 tonnes in 2013 compared to the previous year.

Last year saw an increase in imported volumes into the EU from various regions such as eastern Europe, India, Brazil and Turkey.

“There was also more material coming into Europe from Israel, although this was probably offset by Turkey being down early in 2013,” one benzene trader noted.
