HOUSTON (ICIS)--China’s Ningbo Fortune Petrochemical is expected to start up a 600,000 tonne/year propylene project at Ningbo City, Zhejiang province, in 2016, US-headquartered petrochemicals technology major Honeywell UOP said on Wednesday.

Honeywell UOP said that it won a contract to supply its Oleflex propane dehydrogenation (PDH) technology for the project.

In addition to the technology, Honeywell UOP will provide training, technological services, catalysts, adsorbents and equipment for the project, it said without disclosing financial details.

Honeywell added that it has licensed Oleflex to 12 Chinese propylene producers, including Zhangjiagang Yangzi River Petrochemical. Ningbo Fortune and Zhangjiagang Yangzi are both part of Oriental Energy.

"Demand for propylene is expected to continue to be strong globally, especially in China," said Pete Piotrowski, senior vice president and general manager of UOP's process technology and equipment business unit.
