China’s GDP at 7.4% for first quarter 2014

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s economy expanded by 7.4% year on year in the first quarter of 2014, showing a stable and strong start to the economy in 2014, according to official data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Wednesday.

“The GDP growth for the first quarter is in the higher range in the world, although the growth rate was lower by 0.3 percentage points from the first quarter of 2013,” said Sheng Laiyun, an officer from NBS.

The country’s industrial production increased by 8.7% year on year in the first quarter, with the growth rate lower by 0.8 percentage points from the same period last year, the data showed.
