TransCanada sells carbon black maker Cancarb to Japan Tokai Carbon

TORONTO (ICIS)--TransCanada has sold its Cancarb thermal carbon black business to Japan’s Tokay Carbon for Canadian dollar (C$) $190m ($173m), the Calgary-based energy infrastructure major confirmed on Wednesday.

The deal includes a plant in Medicine Hat in Canada’s Alberta province, along with an associated power generation facility.

With 45,000 tonnes/year, the plant is the largest of its kind in the world, according to information on Cancarb’s website. TransCanada media officials could not immediately provide additional comment about the plant.

Tokyo-based Tokai Carbon is an international supplier of furnace carbon black and other carbon ceramic-related products.
