APIC ’07: Reliance plans 1.5m tonne/yr C2 unit

TAIPEI (ICIS news)--Reliance Industries’ new $3bn cracker at Jamnagar will have a capacity of 1.5m tonnes/year of ethylene and will use off-gas from its new refinery at the same site, a source close to the company said on Wednesday.

He was speaking to ICIS news ahead of the Asian Petrochemicals Industry Conference (APIC) which starts here on Thursday.

Downstream material such as monoethylene glycol (MEG), high density polyethylene (HDPE), low density PE (LDPE) and linear LDPE (LLDPE) are being evaluated as possibilities in the complex’s derivatives slate, the source added.

The Indian petrochemical major, which planned to start up its new 27m tonne/year refinery and a 1m tonne/year PP unit at the integrated complex by the third quarter of 2008, expects to complete the cracker by 2010-2011.
