China’s PX imports surges to 1m tonnes in July; mixed overall

SINGAPORE (ICIS)–China’s import volumes of paraxylene surged
by 48% year on year to 1m tonnes in July while the intake of
other key petrochemicals into the country painted a mixed
picture, official data showed on Tuesday.
On a year-on-year basis, imports of dioctyl phthalate
(DOP), 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) and naphtha rose in July, while
a sharp fall in shipments was recorded for butyl acrylate
(butyl-A), soda ash and methyl methacrylate (MMA), according
to China Customs data. (please see table
below)
China’s imports of DOP surged to 15,249 tonnes in July this
year from 536 tonnes during the same period of 2014, the data
showed.
Its imports of naphtha. meanwhile, more than doubled to
668,273 tonnes in July this year, according to China
Customs.
The country’s intake of butyl-A and soda ash imports slumped
to 16 tonnes and 69 tonnes, respectively, the data showed.
