Polyester is a major downstream of MEG.SINGAPORE (ICIS)–Saudi Arabia’s Jubail United Petrochemical Co (JUPC) plans to restart its 700,000 tonne/year No 1 monoethylene glycol (MEG) unit by end-August after a turnaround that began in early July, a source close to the company said on Tuesday.

The scheduled turnaround involved a change of the unit’s reactor and was initially slated to be completed by September.

The company’s 700,000 tonne/year No 2 MEG plant is also due to undergo a scheduled turnaround in end-September or early October for about two months to change the unit’s reactor, the source said.

JUPC’s supply of cargoes to its contractual customers would not be affected by the turnarounds, the source said.

The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Saudi Arabia’s petrochemical major SABIC.
