Polymir shuts PE production line due to fire

MOSCOW (MRC)–Polymir plant, a subsidiary of Naftan, shut production of polyethylene (PE) following a fire on 18 June, according to company sources.

The blaze, of gas mixture resulting in burning pyrogas products, damaged technological equipment resulting in the shutdown of PE production at the second line. The other lines continued to operate at maximum load.

According to the Federal Rescue Service, there was no threat to the workers and local residents. The maximum permissible concentration of harmful substances in the atmospheric air is not fixed, the measurements are carried out continuously.

No one was injured in the incident and the cause of the fire and damage have been established.

As reported by the MRC earlier, in late April an ethylene discharge occurred at Polymir but it was able to resume PE production on 6 May.

Plant Polymir (Naftan), the largest petrochemical company in Belarus, produces a wide range of chemical products, such as low density polyethylene (LDPE), acrylic fibers, products of organic synthesis and hydrocarbon fractions.

The producer’s annual LDPE production capacity is 130,000 tonnes.
