Mexico June auto production rises 4.1%

MEDELLIN, Colombia (ICIS)–Mexican domestic automobile production increased by 4.1% in June year on year, the Mexican Automakers Association (AMIA) said on Thursday.

Exports registered an increase of 1.8%, the industry group said.

The total number of autos produced was 319,122 in June, up from 306,694 units during the same time last year, AMIA said in a statement.

Exports rose to 247,005 units from 242,720 in June 2015, AMIA said.

The automotive industry is a major global consumer of petrochemicals which contributes more than a third of the raw material costs of an average vehicle.
