India urea deliveries at 3.25m tonnes in April-August

LONDON (ICIS)–In India, a total of 3.25m tonnes of urea was delivered to ports by overseas suppliers in April-August 2016, up 6% from 3.06m tonnes in the same period last year, according to latest data from the Department of Fertilizers (DOF).

In August 2016, urea deliveries were 605,000 tonnes, down 34% from 919,000 tonnes in August 2015.

There are estimates around 3-3.5m tonnes of urea will be imported in the coming months (October 2016-March 2017).

The Indian fiscal year runs April 2016 to March 2017.

Of the total deliveries so far this fiscal year, Oman accounted for a majority of the deliveries. Most of the imports were from the Indian-Oman joint venture company, OMIFCO.
