Updated to Q3 2017
The quarter began with very tight supply, due to global supply constraints and fewer imports reaching the European market due to planned and unplanned outages in the US and the Middle East. Availability began to ease in August, once these production problems were resolved. However, Hurricane Harvey in the US disrupted production at several US cyclohexane plants, which led to import delays and increased tightness in Europe. Imports from the US were making their way to Europe towards the end of the quarter, but in small volumes.
Demand was high as the quarter began, due to global supply constraints limiting European availability. The easing of supply in August began to meet the strong level of demand. Demand was expected to decrease in September, as a number of planned maintenance turnarounds were taking place by downstream European producers. Demand dipped slightly while the downstream maintenance took place, but the impact of Hurricane Harvey tightened European supply, so demand remained healthy as the quarter ended.
