Austria plastic packager ALPLA partners on PET recycling

LONDON (ICIS)–Austrian plastic packager ALPLA will collaborate with Swiss packaging firm FROMM on the recycling of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), ALPLA said on Tuesday.

Both companies operate recycling plants for PET bottles.

With the cooperation, they aim to further optimise recycling rates for PET and to achieve “a significant reduction” in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, ALPLA said.

“The collaboration between our recycling facilities will ensure the necessary quantity and quality of materials for production for both sides,” added Georg Lasser, head of recycling at ALPLA.

ALPLA has PET recycling sites in Wollersdorf, Austria, and Radomsko, Poland, with a total annual capacity of about 45,000 tonnes of food-grade rPET produced from post-consumer materials.

FROMM, via its Texplast subsidiary, produces PET pellets and PET flakes at a facility in Wolfen, Germany.
