SINGAPORE (ICIS)–Firm demand-supply fundamentals in Asia’s polystyrene (PS) market will likely extend into end-September, as some Chinese buyers have yet to fulfil their November-arrival requirements on the import front.

However, some cautiousness remains on the exact stock levels of Chinese import distributors – since most had been procuring cargoes since mid-2020 – and continuously mixed southeast Asian demand.

In this episode of the ICIS Asia podcast, Jasmine Khoo speaks with Trixie Yap, editor for the Asia PS market, on recent market trends and which sector has been the key demand contributor thus far.

  • Supply likely curtailed by turnarounds in Q4 2020
  • Demand for re-export products from China remains firm
  • One new start-up expected in China in October-November
