LONDON (ICIS)–European Plastics Converters (EuPC), the EU level trade association, has become a member of Styrenics Circular Solutions (SCS), an initiative formed by players in the styrenics chain to improve the material’s circularity.

EuPC represents more than 55,000 European plastics converters from all parts of the converting industry, including recycling.

The secretary general of SCS said converters are, “on the front line” of the styrenics value chain and its aim to make the material more circular.

“Individual converter companies already make up an important part of the SCS team, and it greatly increases our momentum to have EuPC’s participation as we move forward,” said Jens Kathmann

The managing director of EuPC said the styrenics industry is fully on board with the EU’s circularity targets “where all plastic waste resources” are ultimately used in a sustainable manner.

“Styrenics are an important part of the plastic industry’s goal to achieve the 2025 EU recycling targets. Our membership of SCS allows us to further improve our active role in this drive and build on developing additional plastic circular business models in Europe,” said Alexandre Dangis.

SCS was founded in 2018. Since then, some of Europe’s largest styrenics players have joined the initiative including majors like INEOS, Total, Trinseo and Elix Polymers, among others.
