MUMBAI (ICIS)–India has imposed anti-dumping duty (ADD) on imports of phthalic anhydride (PA) from China, Indonesia, South Korea and Thailand starting 9 August.

ADD rates ranging from $40.08/tonne to $140.17/tonne will be in effect on imports from these origins for a period of five years.

Following investigations, the government decided to impose the ADDs as the “domestic industry had suffered material injury due to the dumped imports of the product from the subject countries”, according to the Department of Revenue of India’s Ministry of Finance.

India’s Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) had recommended the ADD on PA from these four origins in May this year after conducting an inquiry.

Domestic producers IG Petrochemicals, SI Group India and Thirumalai Chemicals had filed the petition to initiate the probe on PA imports.

The period of investigation was for the fiscal year ending March 2020. For the purpose of injury investigation, the period also covered three fiscal years from 2016-19.
