PODCAST: Weak MEK demand across Europe and Asia, previous short supply supports US demand

LONDON (ICIS)–Demand for MEK is weak in Europe amid softer natural gas and energy pricing, while China’s ongoing zero-Covid policy is limiting activity in Asia.

US demand is relatively steady as pent-up demand from earlier this year is continuing to drive consumption, though wider economic weakness is set to result in reduced activity for this region as well.

MEK’s main application is as a solvent, with half of global demand derived from the paints and coatings industry. MEK can also be used in rubber-based industrial cements, printing inks and in textile dyes.
