Singapore March petchem exports up 42.8% on yr; NODX up 16.5%

SINGAPORE (ICIS)–Singapore’s petrochemical shipments in March increased by 42.8% year on year to Singapore dollar (S$) 1.62bn, in line with the overall growth of the country’s non-oil domestic exports (NODX), official data showed on Monday.

Its NODX rose by 16.5% year on year to S$16bn in March, slowing down from the 21.1% expansion seen in the preceding month, according to the International Enterprise (IE) Singapore.

Singapore’s exports to China in March continued to be strong, surging 45.5% year on year after posting a 65% growth in the previous month, with shipments of petrochemicals up 39%, it said.

NODX to all of the country’s top 10 markets increased in March.

The country’s benzene exports fell by 84.5% year on year to 9,439 tonnes in March, while shipments of paraxylene (PX) more than doubled to 136,630 tonnes, according to IE Singapore.

Exports of ethylene glycol surged to 35,998 tonnes in March, while shipments of naphtha increased 18.5% year on year to 99,998 tonnes.

Singapore’s non-electronic NODX, which includes chemicals and pharmaceuticals shipments, jumped by 20.8% year on year to S$22.7bn, the trade promotion agency said.
