MOSCOW (MRC)–Russia’s Gazprom neftekhim Salavat (GNS) resumed production of polystyrene (PS) on 26 July after a period of scheduled maintenance works, according to the ICIS-MRC Price Report.

However, market players said they do not expect the first lots of material to enter the market until the end of next week. The plant will also need some time to reach a stable quality of the granulate.

PS by production of GNS was practically absent in the Russian market in July, although the small volumes of free PS from the company were sold at higher prices than market ones.

The annual production capacity of high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) and general purpose polystyrene (GPPS) at the plant at GNS totals 42,200 tonnes per year.

As it was previously reported, the plant’s capacities were shut for planned scheduled maintenance on 1 July.

MRC, a partner of ICIS, produces polymers news and pricing reports from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
