Ukraine’s Karpatneftekhim shuts HDPE production after fire

MOSCOW (MRC)–Ukraine’s Karpatneftekhim has stopped production of high density polyethylene (HDPE) due to a fire on its ethylene pipeline, although production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) continues, according to ICIS-MRC Price Report.

A fire broke out on the evening of 12 January. The company has started an investigation into how the fire could have affected equipment.

Karpatneftekhim is one of the largest Ukrainian petrochemical producer.

Its complex has capacities to produce 300,000 tonnes/year of PVC, 200,000 tonnes/year of caustic soda, 180,000 tonnes/year of chlorine, 250,000 tonnes/tonnes of ethylene and 100,000 tonnes of polyethylene (PE) in different grades.
