METHODOLOGY FOR AVERAGING AND CURRENCY CONVERSION

Our currency conversion methodology for contract prices has changed in order to provide a more consistent view across the period. Our previous methodology and the one used on icispricing.com applies an average exchange rate for a number of dates throughout the month. Therefore, depending on the time of the month that a converted price is displayed or downloaded, a different value will be presented.

Please see below for details on our current methodology for Dashboard conversions. If you would like to apply your own foreign exchange rate, please download the prices in their original quoted currency which of course is consistent between ICIS Dashboard and ICISpricing.com

DAILY QUOTES

Daily quotes relate to weekdays only (Monday to Friday).

Where a daily quote is displayed or downloaded in a different currency, the 16:00 UTC foreign exchange rate (as supplied by xe.com) is used for each weekday. For a daily quote published early in the day, the prior publishing day’s 16:00 UTC foreign exchange rate is used until the day of publication’s 16:00 UTC foreign exchange rate becomes available.

Where a daily quote is displayed or downloaded as frequency weekly (weekly average) in its original currency, the arithmetic mean of the values for all days within the week (Monday to Friday) is used. Where non-publishing days occur within the week, the arithmetic mean of values on the publishing days is used. Results are displayed with Friday dates. No value will be returned for a current partial week.

Where a daily quote is displayed or downloaded as frequency weekly in a different currency, the arithmetic mean of the converted values for all days within the week (Monday to Friday) is used. Where non-publishing days occur within the week, the arithmetic mean of values on the publishing days is used. Results are displayed with Friday date. No value will be returned for a current partial week.

Where a daily quote is displayed or downloaded as frequency monthly (monthly average), the arithmetic mean of the values for all publishing days within the month is used. No value will be returned for a current partial month.

Where a daily quote is displayed or downloaded as frequency quarterly (quarterly average), the arithmetic mean of the values for all publishing days within the quarter is used. No value will be returned for a current partial quarter.

WEEKLY QUOTES

Where a weekly quote is displayed or downloaded in a different currency, the 16:00 UTC foreign exchange rate (as supplied by xe.com) is used for the day of publication.

Weekly quotes cannot be displayed or downloaded as frequency daily.

Where a weekly quote is displayed or downloaded as frequency monthly, the arithmetic mean of the values for all publishing days within the month is used. Where non-publishing days occur within the month, the arithmetic mean of values on the publishing days is used. No value will be returned for a current partial month.

Where a weekly quote is displayed or downloaded as frequency quarterly, the arithmetic mean of the values for all publishing days within the quarter is used. Where non-publishing days occur within the quarter, the arithmetic mean of values on the publishing days is used. No value will be returned for a current partial quarter.

MONTHLY CONTRACT QUOTES

Where a monthly contract quote is displayed or downloaded in a different currency, the 16:00 UTC foreign exchange rate (as supplied by xe.com) for the first day of the month is used. This is the case whether the quote is downloaded on a monthly, weekly or daily frequency. If the first day of the month falls at the weekend (Saturday or Sunday), or on a non-publishing day, the prior publishing day’s 16:00 UTC foreign exchange rate is used. The prior publishing day’s 16:00 UTC foreign exchange rate is also used for contracts settling early and available in the charts and downloads from 00:01 on the first day of the month. This is replaced by the 16:00 UTC foreign exchange rate of the first day of the month once available, unless the first day of the month falls at the weekend or on a non-publishing day, in which case the prior publishing day’s 16:00 UTC rate is retained.

Where a monthly contract quote is displayed or downloaded as frequency quarterly, the arithmetic mean of the three monthly values is used. No value will be returned for a current partial quarter.

QUARTERLY CONTRACT QUOTES

Where a quarterly contract quote is displayed or downloaded in a different currency, the 16:00 UTC foreign exchange rate (as supplied by xe.com) for the first day of the quarter is used. This is the case whether the quote is downloaded on a quarterly, monthly, weekly or daily frequency.  If the first day of the quarter falls at the weekend, or on a non-publishing day, the prior publishing day’s 16:00 UTC foreign exchange rate is used. The prior publishing day’s 16:00 UTC foreign exchange rate is also used for contracts settling early and available in the charts and downloads from 00:01 on the first day of the quarter. This is replaced by the 16:00 UTC foreign exchange rate of the first day of the quarter once available, unless the first day of the quarter falls at the weekend or on a non-publishing day, in which case the prior publishing day’s 16:00 UTC rate is retained.

MONTHLY SPOT QUOTES

Where a monthly spot quote is displayed or downloaded in a different currency, the 16:00 UTC foreign exchange rate (as supplied by xe.com) is used for the day of publication.

Monthly spot quotes cannot be displayed or downloaded as frequency weekly or frequency daily.

Where a monthly spot quote is displayed or downloaded as frequency quarterly, the arithmetic mean of the three monthly values is used. No value will be returned for a current partial quarter.

AVERAGES FOR SERIES LAUNCHED MID PERIOD

Where a quote is launched in the middle of a period, no average value will be returned for that period. If that data is required, we would suggest downloading the quote for that period in its original published frequency.

AVERAGES FOR SERIES DISCONTINUED MID PERIOD

Where a quote is discontinued in the middle of a period, no average value will be returned for that period. If that data is required, we would suggest downloading the quote for that period in its original published frequency.

AVERAGES FOR CURRENT PERIOD

As no results will be returned for a current partial period, we would suggest downloading the quote for that period in its original published frequency.
